be certified in South Carolina Job Description:
- Provide instruction and support to elementary students with
moderate intellectual disabilities.
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for
students, based on their specific needs and goals.
- Create a structured and supportive classroom environment that
promotes student engagement and learning.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and materials to
accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Adapt and modify curriculum to meet the unique needs of
students with moderate intellectual disabilities.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including speech
therapists, occupational therapists, and behavior specialists, to
address students' individual needs.
- Implement behavior management strategies and interventions to
support students' social and emotional development.
- Monitor and track student progress through ongoing assessment
and data collection.
- Regularly communicate with parents/guardians regarding
students' progress, goals, and strategies for support.
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development
of transition plans for students.
- Stay informed about best practices and research in the field of
special education. Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or a related
field.
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education in the state
of South Carolina.
- Experience working with students with moderate intellectual
disabilities is preferred.
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices and instructional
strategies for students with special needs.
- Familiarity with the IEP process and special education laws and
regulations.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to create a supportive and
inclusive classroom environment.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs
of students.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
