Job Description:

General Definition of Work Provides coordination and oversight for the Driver Education program operating within Union County. This is supervisory and organizational work in developing, teaching and promoting the driver education curriculum, traffic safety and driver training in Union County. The Driver Education Coordinator/manager is responsible for coordinating the work of driver education representatives engaged in driver training, safety education, and the operation of driver improvement trainings. Work includes contacts with school superintendent, principals, school transportation supervisors, mechanics, and instructors in order to plan and coordinate the driver education programs. Qualification Requirements An employee must have successfully completed an approved Driver Instructor Education Course and passed all certification tests required by the state. This person will serve as the program manager for the Driver Education program within the Union County Public Schools and is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the program. Work requires a comprehensive understanding of the state, DMV, and DPI requirements for the driver education program, and the ability to accomplish goals through others. Essential Functions Assists in organizing the review and analysis of instructional materials and software related to the driver education curriculum in its alignment with the NC Department of Public Instruction Ensures compliance with state and local laws, regulations and policies Works with the finance department to establish and manage the Driver Education program budget. Ensures all payments are processed according to policy and the finance manual. Ensures all purchases align with policy and the finance manual. Keeps current on latest trends, developments, and research in driver education and advises driver education teachers accordingly Keeps UCPS Driver Education Website updated Attends professional meetings, workshops and conferences Develops and provides training for driver education teachers to increase content knowledge and appropriate use of driver education materials. Keep DE Instructors abreast of changes from DPI and DMV. Maintains accessibility to driver education instructors Oversees and works with driver education instructors in the scheduling of Behind-the-Wheel instruction Monitors numbers of students scheduled for classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction Monitors and evaluates driver education program by meeting regularly with driver education instructors Coordinates with mechanic to ensure all DE vehicles are mechanically sound and safe for all occupants Coordinates with the mechanic to ensure inspection of all DE vehicles on a yearly basis Works with the UCPS Risk Manager to ensure all DE cars are insured and if an accident occurs provide the necessary forms and information in a timely manner Provides additional support to the driver education program as assigned Driver Education Coordinator Visits with individual driver education representatives for the purpose of giving assistance to standardize and improve instructional practices. Investigates complaints from the public concerning work of the field staff and resolves problems through discussions with appropriate field staff Interviews prospective employees and assists in the selection and assignment of new personnel; trains and supervises new personnel. Discusses program plans and objectives with supervisor, principals, and additional stakeholders Performs related work as required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Comprehensive knowledge of the North Carolina Department of Instruction and the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicle education program and processes Comprehensive knowledge of school personnel and administrative practices, procedures and methods; Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of department administration; thorough knowledge of district, department and program policies, programs, procedures and guidelines; Ability to express ideas effectively in both oral and written formats Ability to direct and evaluate the work of others Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of programming and to implement changes into daily business routines Ability to develop, monitor, and maintain a budget Ability to operate standard office equipment and related hardware and software Ability to learn specialized software based on business needs Ability to conceptualize, initiate, monitor and evaluate new and/or current programs Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, school officials and parents Education and Experience Bachelors degree in relevant field (Education, Business Administration, or related field) Minimum of 3 years working with a Driver Education Program Knowledge of overall operation of driver education program Satisfactory driving record. Successfully completed an approved NC DPI and/or DMV Driver Instructor Education Course and be a certified Driver Education Instructor.
