a Peer Support Specialists, you work 1:1 to promote development of
wellness self-management, personal recovery, natural supports,
coping skills, self-advocacy skills, and the development of
independent living skills for housing, employment, and full
community inclusion. In addition, you will provide training,
mentoring and support for your team of Peer Support Specialists.

galore!What you'll do:Provide structured and scheduled activities
to individuals with a mental health diagnosis or Substance Use
diagnosis.Enhance the development of natural supports, as well as
coping and self-management skills of individuals.Provide supportive
services to assist an individual in community re-entry following
hospitalization, institutionalization, incarceration, substance use
treatment.Promote self-determination, recovery, self-advocacy, and
self-direction.Assist individuals in identifying strengths;
wellness goals; setting objectives, and identifying barriers.Attend
treatment team meetings with individual to promote the use of
self-directed advocacy tools.Assist with teaching individuals'
techniques for developing support plans and how to ask for
appropriate services in community.Support the individual through
the support planning process.Teach wellness management strategies
and self-management plans/tools to use in community settings and in
their personal lives.Promote initiatives to decrease social
isolation.Model advocacy skills for disclosure issues or requesting
reasonable accommodations.Develop network of support groups in the
community to learn from other peers.Seek to promote hope, ability
to problem solve through situations,Provide education to other
support team members to assist in understanding of self-advocate
and peer support roles.Provide resources and teaching
transportation skills as necessary to secure employment.Support
individuals to make informed decisions and build community
connections.Support the vocational choices individuals make and
support them in overcoming job-related concerns and building social
skills in the community that will enhance job acquisition and
tenure.Ensure that standards are maintained. RequirementsWhat you
need:Must be at least 18 years of agePass criminal record and
healthcare registry checkPass driving record check if providing
transportationHigh school graduate or equivalent (GED)NC Peer
Support Certification Guidelines under BHRPCommitment to achieve
competency in required knowledge, skills, and abilitiesNote:
Current First Aid/CPR blended or classroom certification is
required. If you do not currently have certification from an
approved provider, our American Red Cross certified instructors
will provide you the training.Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
independently (per policy)Willingness and ability to work flexible
hours including nights. Weekends and overtime as required.LIFESPAN
