Methodist Home for Children works to ensure safe, nurturing
homes for children while working to eradicate the social and family
problems that lead to abuse, neglect, family disruption and
abandonment. We provide community-based services for children and
families throughout North Carolina. We partner with public agencies
to serve children in crisis and we raise private funds to ensure
that we can deliver the best in evidence-based services.
We are currently seeking an NC Licensed Teacher for our
multipurpose home in Monroe, NC for a year-round teaching
FIRST THINGS FIRST... WHAT IS A MULTIPURPOSE HOME?
Multipurpose homes are residential facilities for youth. Residency
in our multipurpose homes has been proven to interrupt lifetime
criminal behavior for Level II repeat juvenile offenders. MHC staff
implement a model of care that teaches teens to change problem
behaviors and attitudes, expand their skills and recover from
setbacks and mistakes.
WHAT DOES THE TEACHER DO?
Under the direction of the Residential Program Manager, the Teacher
plans and implements a comprehensive individualized education
program for each juvenile resident on a year-round basis (up to
eight youth at a time). The Teacher will operate the school program
in compliance with all approval and accreditation requirements
specified by the North Carolina Department of Non-Public
Instruction. This includes, but is not limited to, recording daily
classroom attendance, filing immunization records, and conducting
an annual audit. The teacher will develop a curriculum for each
student that meets the North Carolina standard course of study
requirements for the individual youth's grade level. This position
is ideal for NC Licensed Teachers seeking a non-traditional
classroom setting where creativity and innovation are
ARE YOU QUALIFIED?
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or
Appropriate current, valid teaching certification as specified by
the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction
Minimum of two (2) years teaching experience with adolescents, or
direct residential experience with the target population is
Must maintain a valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving
Must be twenty-one (21) years of age
Paid Holidays: MHC gives full-time employees paid holidays each
Vacation Leave: First partial calendar year of hire is pro-rated at
10 days (80 hours) per year
Sick Leave: Paid sick leave is accumulated at 12 days (96 hours)
per calendar year. All unused sick leave will carry over into the
next calendar year.
Health Benefits: Employees may choose between the Cigna HealthCare
Medical Base HSA Plan or Medical Buy-Up HSA Plan. Dental and Vision
plans are also available.
Health Care Flex Plan: Employees can utilize the optional Health
Care Flexible Spending Account (HSA) tax-free reimbursement program

themselves and their dependents.
Dependent Care Flex Plan: Employees can utilize the optional
Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) tax-free
reimbursement program for their eligible dependent care
Life Insurance: Term life insurance is provided by MHC for
full-time staff in the amount of 1x the employee's annual salary.
Supplemental life insurance is available for individual or family
Workers' Compensation: This agency-paid benefit covers on-the-job
403B Plan: Employees can contribute to a tax-deferred annuity plan;
MHC matches a portion of the contributed funds.
