Job Description:

EMSL Analytical, Inc., one of the largest environmental testing firms in the United States, is currently seeking a full time Microscopist Microbiology for its Charlotte, NC location.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Classical and advanced methods for microbial and bio-aerosol analysis. Identification of bacteria and fungi.Assist with preparation and analysis of microbiology samples such as air, water and bulk materials for fungus and bacteria.Analyze environmental microbiology samples such as spore trap/direct examination of water analysis.Identification of environmental isolates utilizing biochemical tests (API, BBL, and Biolog).Preparation and analysis of a variety environmental samples for Legionella, MRSA, VRE, Salmonella, C diff., Staphylococcus.The successful candidate must be familiar with daily activities in the laboratory, including analyzing samples with unknown IDs.Maintaining the Quality Assurance/Quality Control Program and Standard Operating Procedures.Assist with sample and media inventory management.Assist with maintaining and troubleshooting equipment, autoclave duties, and laboratory clean-up as needed.Assist in environmental microbiology reporting and documentation compliance according to our Quality Assurance/Quality Control Program and Standard Operating Procedures.Cross training in Asbestos and lead analysis (if applicable) or any other area of analysis to meet business demands will be a requirement for the position.Requirements:B.Sc. or MS in mycology/microbiology/bacteriology with strong background in Bacteriology.Two to five years' of experience in an academic, commercial, or industrial laboratory setting.Must be able to enumerate, identify and confirm a wide variety of bacteria and fungiCollege-Level course in Statistics or Quality Assurance is a plus.Experience with air samples, surface samples, food testing, bacteriology, and mycology is desirable.Two years' of environmental microbiology laboratory experience is a plus, but not required.One to three years' of experience using API/BBL kits and Biolog identification a plus, but not required.Candidate must be able to distinguish colors in order to perform analysisMust have some lab experience and be proficient in common lab procedures.Must be able to work with phase contrast and light microscopes, analytical balances, biological safety cabinets, filtration manifolds, and must be able to adhere to sterile technique and good lab practices.Must have good communication skills (will have some client interaction).Must have good computer skills both in typing and MS Office.Must have attention to detail.Must have the ability to maintain client confidentiality.Must be able to work independently and with a team.Must be able to work well under pressure and meet short deadlines.Must be able to work some weekends as needed.Available Shifts:Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., extra hours and/or weekend work may be required to meet business demands.For consideration, all candidates must apply through our company website:EMSL Careers Center Website: the nation's leading environmental testing firm, EMSL's network of nationwide laboratories has been providing quality analytical services since 1981.
